Have I said clearly enough that the Community we created is not an end in itself? It is a process of change, continuing in that same process which in an earlier period produced our national forms of life. The sovereign nations of the past can no longer solve the problems of the present: they cannot ensure their own progress or control their own future. And the Community itself is only a stage on the way of the organized world of tomorrow.

About the project
The University of Ljubljana Centre of Excellence / DebatEU stands for Ljubljana focal point on the policymaking process and policy studies in Europe. The University of Ljubljana – Faculty of Social Sciences (UL-FSS) is a research organization hosting two centres (Centre for Political Science Research and Centre for International Relations) with research agendas in EU studies. It organizes academic bachelor, master and Ph.D. programs in which considerable attention is paid to EU studies. DebatEU brings together scholars from political science, international relations and sociology with multidisciplinary expertise in policymaking process and policy studies in Europe.
Events and results
In frame of the project, the DebatEU team members will organize (1) a conference on critical reflection of 15 years of Slovenian membership in the EU; (2) a conference on the topic of knowledge society in the EU and the role of teaching European Studies at the University level; (3) Outreach Conference to present the main outputs, outcomes and impact of the project. As part of main research results, (4) two scientific monographs will be published, and (5) a set of conference papers prepared to be presented at national, European and international scientific conferences. To expand visibility of all events, after each event (6) a policy brief will be prepared. Novelties of the DebatEU project, which aim to promote the high-profile research and teaching of European Union Studies at the UL–FSS, will be developed: (7) Annual lectures on Europe; (8) DebatEU Blog on Europe; and (9) UL-FSS Jean Monnet Papers.
